Project Timeline

Project Duration: March 31st - May 23rd

Work Days: Monday to Friday, 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM

May 5th through May 9th (Week 6):

  • KKW's crew will spend this week reconnecting services from the old main to the new one. This will require short, scheduled shut-downs of water service. Businesses and residences affected will be notified. Flaggers will control access through their work zone. Expect minor delays if you need to pass through this work zone to reach your destination.
  • KKW's crew may also install some temporary water main piping this week for the properties closest to the Port Road intersection. If your property is affected someone from the crew will coordinate with you for access to your outside water spigot.
  • KSD's contractor, Curtis Earthworks, has completed the installation of the new sewer main. They will not be working on Western Ave for the first few days of this week. Depending on KKW's progress and other factors they may return to the road toward the end of the week to begin the box-cutting process. The box-cut is the final step in the project before paving. By stripping approximately 2' of material from the roadway and replacing it with a continuous layer of gravel that meets Maine DOT specifications, the road surface will stay in the best possible condition for years to come.
  • The box-cut work will begin near the entrance to Mike's All Day Breakfast and will advance in an easterly direction. As the operation advances across driveways, access will be temporarily affected. Feel free to discuss your access needs with the Curtis Earthworks foreman, or reach out to us. It's too early to exactly predict the timing.

May 12th through May 16th (Week 7):

  • Curtis Earthworks will continue to box-cut the entire roadway.
  • We plan to have the entire roadway paved the following week.

Things to Note:

  • The road will be open to the normal traffic pattern on the weekend.
  • The Village Marketplace parking lot can be used as a pass-through to access locations blocked by the KKW and Curtis Earthworks construction zones.
  • Access may be limited at times, but crews will work to minimize these disruptions.
  • Public Safety, Emergency Services and Trash Collection will be updated and will always maintain access.
  • If you have questions specific to how to access your property, please ask on-site to speak with the Foreman, Ed Thyng, or contact either Chris Johnson or Jamie Paschal by the phone numbers or email addresses listed below.
  • All questions, concerns, and feedback are welcome. Please contact Chris or Jamie.
